"God's Work Our Hands"
Trinity Lutheran Church, 675 E. Algonquin Rd., Des Plaines, IL is celebrating its 6th Anniversary of the 5 Loaves and 2 Fish community lunches which are held on the second Saturday of every month in Fellowship Hall from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. We have 25 volunteers who help prepare the food, set up and clean up the hall and extend fellowship to the 75 guests who come every month.
The main purpose is to feed the hungry including the people that come to the Des Plaines Self help closet and Food Pantry across the street from our church on Saturdays. The food that is served is donated by members of Trinity and friends, support from local businesses, restaurants, service organizations plus gifts from individuals in our community. We hope to have a place for anyone and everyone to have a part in feeding those Jesus loves. Rev. George Schelter, Senior Pastor stated “wouldn’t it be nice if Des Plaines would be known as “the city where no one goes hungry?” With the meals sent home with the people, the impact of this venture of faith stretches far beyond our church. We are joining other churches in the community who are already feeding the hungry on a regular basis.
On Saturday, September 10th we celebrated "God's Work Our Hands" by distributing 25 shopping bags filled with groceries which was donated by members of the congregation to those who needed groceries
