A LITTLE CHURCH TRIVIA!
Do you know that Lent begins this year with Ash Wednesday services on February 14 – the same day as Valentine’s Day? The last time that happened was in 1945. Do you know that Easter falls on April 1 – the same as April Fools’ Day? The last time that happened was in 1956. The last time both dates converged in the same year was 1945. That means that the great majority of us have never seen this convergence before. I know I haven’t.
So, what does this mean for us? Do ashes and chocolate go together? What pranks should we play on each other on Easter?
Here at Trinity, we will do what Christians have done for centuries. We begin our Lenten observation on Ash Wednesday. Forty-five days later we will celebrate Easter Sunday. And in between we will encourage the faithful to observe the practices of Lent: prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.
The theme for this year’s Lenten season is “You Are the Way.” Saturday/Sunday readings will guide us in an exploration of the various covenant narratives in the Old and New Testament. On Wednesday evenings we will explore the “I Am” statements of Jesus. A devotional booklet, “You Are the Way” is available in the narthex for your devotional use.
Our midweek worship schedule during Lent will be as follows:
Wednesday, February 14 11:00 a.m. Ash Wednesday worship
7:00 p.m. Ash Wednesday worship
Wednesday, February 21 7:00 p.m. Evening Prayer worship
Wednesday, February 28 7:00 p.m. Evening Prayer worship
Wednesday, March 7 7:00 p.m. Evening Prayer worship
Wednesday, March 14 7:00 p.m. Evening Prayer worship
Wednesday, March 21 7:00 p.m. Evening Prayer worship
Have a purposeful and meaningful Lent,
Rev. Dennis H. Kelly Interim Minister
